SpaceX / INTERSTELLAR Mash-Up Will Give You Goose Bumps

The viewers who watched SpaceX’s webcast of its most recent Falcon 9 launch—and return landing back on Earth—were treated to the kind of real-time moment that comes along rarely in life. A moment when humans brought something extremely complex from their imaginations into reality. A moment when years and years of challenging work as well as many failures, for thousands and thousands of people, culminated in triumph. A moment that stood as a testament to humanity’s innate urge to explore. A moment that clearly conveyed a breakthrough; when the hardness of humanity’s will, through a focused and sustained effort, drove through the hardness of invention. In other words, it was prettay prettay… prettay good.

Now, thanks to Brian Gleason and his YouTube channel, that moment, as well as many others from SpaceX’s history and space exploration in general, have been combined with music and voiceover from the Interstellar teaser trailer in a non-official fan video. And the result is downright inspiring.

It’s no surprise that Hans Zimmer’s score, Matthew McConaughey’s soliloquy, and video of big moments from SpaceX and other space explorers dovetail quite wonderfully; but the mash-up is more than just a commercial for Elon Musk’s company or Christopher Nolan’s film. It is, ultimately, a 1:43 second video that makes viewers remember all of the great feats humanity is capable of when there is a unified effort to execute on a singular vision. The video manages to solicit the feeling that occurs when a difficult challenge has been overcome. A feeling of pride.

“Perhaps we’ve just forgotten,” McConaughey says in his Interstellar voiceover, “that we’re still pioneers. That we’ve barely begun, and that our greatest accomplishments cannot be behind us…” But thanks to events like Falcon 9’s landing, we have reminders to keep our potential as a race in clear view.

If you haven’t seen either Falcon 9’s landing or the teaser trailer for Interstellar, you can check them both out below:
