Later this week, we may finally see the first trailer from Star Wars: The Last Jedi at Star Wars Celebration Orlando. That means we may finally get a better look at Supreme Leader Snoke, the big bad behind Kylo Ren and the First Order in The Force Awakens. We still don’t know who or what Snoke is, and the tie-in novels have only offered more questions. But if “the clothes maketh the man,” then a new report about Snoke’s outfit may offer some additional insights into his character. Today’s Nerdist News is unraveling the would-be Emperor’s new clothes!
There are potential mild spoilers ahead for The Last Jedi! You’ve been warned!
Join host and First Order fashion expert, Jessica Chobot, as she examines a recent report from Making Star Wars. According to those rumor mavens, Snoke isn’t going to be satisfied by the hooded Sith bathrobe that Palpatine wore in Return of the Jedi. Instead, Snoke just has to have his bling! We’re talking about a huge black ring that may even be a kyber crystal, an ornately decorated golden robe, and slippers.
If that report is accurate, it sure seems to indicate that Snoke loves material objects in a way that the Emperor never could. It may also suggest that Snoke has ties to the Acolytes of the Beyond from the Star Wars: Aftermath novels. In those books, someone with a lot of galactic credits has been buying every single Sith artifact they could find. Could Snoke be the mystery patron who’s got his own Sith fandom to compliment Kylo Ren’s weird fascination with Darth Vader? More to the point, did Snoke buy the helmet of Darth Vader and give it to his apprentice?
