Sculptor Gets Creative with Crayons

Well I officially think that I do not try hard enough with my art because these little beauties make me feel inadequate. Washington-based artist Bryan Edmiston has created exquisite tiny sculptures from crayons. They’re absolutely gorgeous. Look at the pictures! Just look at them!

All exaggeration aside, Edmiston has a whole series of creations that will speak to the kid in you and the pop culture aficionado too. Here alone are depictions of your favorite Beatles, Pikachu, Pac-Man and his friendly (and not so friendly) ghosts, SpongeBob SquarePants star Patrick, Snoopy, Shaun from Shaun of the Dead, and the ultimate social climber, Godzilla. From what I can tell, the crayon choices here are pretty classic Crayola, and you’d probably be able to get them from a regular package of the drawing material. Now just take a second and think about what Edmiston could create with the big kahuna 64 count Crayola box.

I’m thinking it would be cool to see whole casts of characters so maybe the rest of SpongeBob’s crew and the sponge himself? Some Rainbow Brite would also be pretty awesome, and maybe some Jem? I’m not sure why I’m immediately drawn to the ’80s and ’90s in terms of inspiration, but something about Crayola just screams childhood to me. And, well, the ’80s and ’90s were my childhood so I guess it sort of makes sense.

Edmiston sells his creations on Etsy through his Character Crayons store. You can also keep up with his awesome artistry on Facebook. What would you like to see him create next? Please tell me in the comments below!
