Watch 2 Numbers from RIVERDALE’s CARRIE: THE MUSICAL Episode

It makes sense that Riverdale fans have been clamoring for a full-blown musical episode for a while now. After all, the show is already infused with musical interludes and a neon-hued theatricality. Archie sings and plays the guitar, Josie and the Pussycats perform pop covers at local events, and Betty isn’t opposed to a little karaoke striptease. It was only a matter of time before the show erupted into a full song and dance spectacle, and now the time has come. Tonight, Riverdale debuts its long-awaited Carrie: The Musical episode, and we have a sneak peek at two numbers from the show.

The episode, appropriately titled “A Night to Remember,” finds the Riverdale High gang preparing for a drama club rendition of Carrie: The Musical, which was an actual Broadway musical notorious for closing after only five performances. Mean girl Cheryl Blossom (Madelaine Petsch) plays the titular Carrie White, with Alice Cooper (Mädchen Amick) stepping into the role of her maniacal mother Margaret (a role originated in Brian de Palma‘s 1976 film by Amick’s Twin Peaks co-star Piper Laurie).

In the first clip, which you can watch above, Archie (K.J. Apa), Betty (Lili Reinhart), Veronica (Camila Mendes), and more perform the song “In,” which expresses teenage anxieties about having something to do on a Saturday night. The next clip, just below, shows the cast singing “A Night We’ll Never Forget” on what appears to be the musical’s opening night.

These clips are both pretty cheerful, but anyone familiar with Carrie will know things take a dark (and super bloody) turn. “A Night To Remember” will marry the school’s production of Carrie: The Musical with its own subplot, where Cheryl is threatened with an anonymous letter and Jughead (Cole Sprouse) attempts to solve the mystery of who wrote it.

The episode was written by Arabella Anderson and Tessa Williams, and airs this Wednesday at 8 ET/PT on The CW. The soundtrack will be available immediately after the episode on streaming sites and for purchase.
