Will Morty Die In the RICK AND MORTY Finale?

This Sunday, Rick and Morty season 3 will come to a close, and we’re not ready for it to end! And while co-creator Dan Harmon has said that the show doesn’t necessarily have a long term plan, the recent events at the Citadel of Ricks have us expecting some major developments in the third season finale. Today’s Nerdist News is putting on the tinfoil hat as we look at the rumors that one of our beloved cartoon duo may not make it out alive!

There are potential spoilers ahead for the Rick and Morty season finale! <burp> You’ve been warned!

Join host and Seal Team Rick’s latest recruit, Jessica Chobot, as she walks us through Adult Swim’s teaser for the third season finale. Keith David is back as the President, and he’s apparently called in Rick and Morty to help him deal with an alien invasion. It seems pretty low key, which makes us suspect that it’s another misdirect, much like the opening for “The Ricklantis Mixup” made us think that we were getting an Atlantis episode.

In fact, the episode’s title, “The Rickchurian Mortydate,” is a pretty obvious callback to The Manchurian Candidate, a film that is notorious for its twists and turns. Perhaps the President isn’t who he seems to be, or maybe Evil Morty will take this opportunity to strike at Rick by killing and replacing the Morty that we know and love. When Rick promised that this season would be the darkest one of them all, he wasn’t kidding! And what better way to go out than by claiming the life of one of our heroes?

Of course, death isn’t necessarily the end on this show. But we may have a year or more to deal with whatever cliffhanger the season leaves us on. And we’re starting the speculation now!
