RESIDENT EVIL’s Umbrella Corps is Treating Skin in Vietnam

Vietnam’s Ho Chi Minh City is home to a dermatology office called the Medcare Skin Centre, and some savvy gamers and moviegoers out there might notice that their logo looks eerily familiar. To the untrained eye it’s just a red-cross knock-off that might appear on any medical building, but the rest of us know that it’s an exacr copy of the infamous Umbrella Corps’ logo in the Resident Evil franchise. That’s right; the logo is borrowed from a company that makes friggin’ zombies!

Now, I don’t want to sound like that guy who has a bunker in his backyard to save him from the inevitable zombie apocalypse, but it does kind of look like that might not be the worse course of action given Umbrella’s history of catastrophic decisions.

What’s worse is that Medcare Skin Centre seems like a positive and legit healthcare office! Pictures of happy workers cover its website with an emphasis on taking care of people! But if you’ll recall, that’s exactly how Umbrella Corps looked at first! Their description was: In public, it is the world’s leading supplier of computer technology, medical products, and healthcare. What about that sounds evil? Next thing you know, ZOMBIES.

I’m just saying.

And of all the logos they could have ended up with, why the zombie-making one? For a skin-care company, no less! “Excuse me, you’re looking quite fresh today, how about we add a bit of decay to your complexion?” NOPE.

Perhaps I’m overreacting and it was all a big misunderstanding. It does seem like the good folks at Medcare Skin Centre were unaware that their logo evoked memories of zombie attacks. In fact, following public notice of the connection, the company issued this statement on Facebook:

Dear Clients and Partners of Medcare Skin Centre and others of concern;

In the last few days, we have received feedback from the media and community that our logo resembles that of a fictional corporation (Umbrella Corporation) in the movie and game Resident Evil. We are very surprised to receive such feedback from the community.

We are very sorry the situation has occurred and are working internally to find the best solution quickly. Our team is highly specialized in taking care of skin conditions for our clients and logo design is completely out of our specialty and was consulted and completed for us by a hired third-party. We understand the urgency of the situation; working to quickly to provide appropriate answer to our clients, partners, community and to the movie and game producers and copyright holders of the artwork. We hope for your understanding that the situation is not an intentional infringement of copyright by Medcare Skin Centre.

We will continually update our progress on the website and social media presence. Once again, we are very sorry and look forward to your understanding and support.

Sincerely,
Medcare Skin Centre

…Even still, I’ll be in my bunker. SAVE ME, CHRIS REDFIELD.
