Real-Life Batmobile Rocks Gumball 3000 Rally

Oh, this Lamborghini that’s been stripped down and rebuilt with 90% carbon fiber parts that make it look almost exactly like the Arkham Knight Batmobile? You wouldn’t be interested in that…

Yes, it’s Gumball rally time again, and that means engineers with big imaginations and racers with even bigger bank accounts team up to produce wild one-off vehicles that are loud, fast, and eco-unfriendly enough to make Captain Planet consider moving to Mars already. But this year, the clear winner of the international sorta-race sorta-rich-people-just-goofing-off-on-public-roads — at least in terms of originality, build quality, and general badassery — is the Batmobile that was commissioned by Team Galag and built by Swedish carmaker Caresto.

The Team Galag Batmobile is inspired by the Batmobile from the Batman: Arkham Knight video game, and is almost an exact visual replication. It’s built on a Lamborghini Gallardo chassis (no, Bruce didn’t drive the Gallardo in Batman Begins, that was the Gallardo’s bigger brother), and sources the same powerplant: a 560 horsepower 5.2 liter V10 engine. For reference, a 2013 Lamborghini Gallardo can go from 0-60 in about 3.0 seconds, or about as fast it takes Batman to disappear after you turn around for only like, three seconds.

Some aspects of the Galag Batmobile diverge from the one in Arkham Knight (for obvious safety and logistical reasons), including the way its cabin opens and its seating arrangement. The exhaust tubes on the sides are also just there for flare, although it still sounds like one of Dany’s dragons on a fiery day thanks to that Lambo V10 and an exhaust opening in the center rear. It also has a bunch of nifty little features like video displays for the driver’s side and rear views, as you’re blind as a…guy in a bat suit who can’t turn his head much.

The Gumball 3000, which this year starts in Dublin and ends in Bucharest, began last weekend, which means we’ll have to wait and see if the Batmobile can bring home the big win. Although the Team Galag drivers are already riding around Europe in a Batmobile, so maybe they’re okay without it anyway.

What do you think about this real-life Batmobile? Are you psyched to see a replica of the Arkham Knight ride on the streets, or would Bruce want to see a beast like this put to better use? Let us know in the comments below!
