The White House Correspondents’ Dinner has often been an outlet for sitting president’s to take some well deserved jabs back at the media. This year was no different and the President truly had some amazing comedic timing. The highlight to his speech was definitely when President Obama invited a special guest to assist him.
By now, we’re all familiar with the Key & Peele character “Luther” the presidential anger translator.  For those of you unfamiliar with the show, Keegan-Michael Key plays the overly emotive Luther to Jordan Peele’s reserved President Barack Obama. Where Peele’s Obama stays calm and collected, Key is the emotional Id saying everything that’s on his mind for the President.
The President’s speech at the Correspondents’ Dinner was hilarious in it’s own right. Poking fun at everything from Vice President Joe Biden’s creepy tendency to give out unsolicited shoulder rubs, the Democrats losing their their majority stake in the Senate, and even took the time to make some “birther” jokes about himself. Reflecting on his 7 years in office so far and how his advisers asked him if he had a “bucket list” the President joked “Well, I have something that rhymes with bucket list” going onto say:
“Take executive action on immigration? Bucket. New climate regulations? Bucket. It’s the right thing to do.”
But the high point really was when President Obama invited Luther onto the stage and had him, in his normal fashion, translate the underlying anger of POTUS’ calm statements. Luther lets everyone have it. CNN’s coverage of Ebola, Ted Cruz’s million 6 million dollar donor, and even the tradition of the Correspondents’ Dinner itself. It takes a turn when it’s apparent that Luther’s services don’t seem to be needed anymore as President Obama finds himself losing his cool over the recent climate change deniers. Luther, having never seen the President so worked up, decides to leave but not before whispering “He crazy!” to the First Lady.
