“Gee, Brain. What are we going to do tonight?”
“The same thing we do every night, Pinky: kill somebody and eat their organs.”
Now that would have been a very different, very dark kid’s cartoon, but it turns out evil genius Brain’s deep, intimidating voice works perfectly for the role of evil genius Hannibal Lecter. We know because we had the real Pinky and the Brain recreate one of the most famous scenes from Silence of the Lambs.
Maurice LaMarche, the voice of Brain, was a guest on our Alpha series Talkin’ Toons with host Rob Paulsen, who was of course the voice of Pinky. What better way to celebrate this beloved animated kid’s show reunion than by having the two of them read the scene when Anthony Hopkins’ creepy Hannibal Lecter analyzes the background of Jodie Foster’s Agent Clarice Starling before telling her about a delightful meal he once had with a census worker.
Obviously Maurice LaMarche and that golden voice of his were put on this planet to play any kind of mad genius, but it’s hard to take Pinky seriously as an FBI agent hunting down a serial killer. Try to picture Jodie Foster in that scene yelling, “Narf!” It wouldn’t quite work.
