At E3, we got our first look at a version of Minecraft that was compatible on Microsoft’s Holo Lens. This weekend, Telltale Games took to MINECON in London to officially unveil their narrative-driven game Minecraft: Story Mode—which was officially announced last December. In addition to the reveal trailer, (which you can check out above) the developer also revealed several details about the five part episodic series, including the plot and cast of voice actors.
According to Telltale, the game, which is set to take place in a Minecraft world, will take you to the Nether, the Farlands, the End, among other locations. Like previous titles from the dev (The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones) the decisions that you make, what you say to people, and etc. will determine the way in which the narrative plays out.
Speaking of narrativeâ players will control the protagonist Jesse (Patton Oswalt), who with his group of friends, revere the legendary Order of the Stone and have slayed an Ender Dragon. Stars like Brian Posehn (The Sarah Silverman Program), Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us), Scott Porter (Batman: Arkham Knight), Martha Plimpton (Raising Hope), Dave Fennoy (Batman: Arkham Knight), Corey Feldman (The Lost Boys), Billy West (Futurama), and Paul Reubens (Pee-wee’s Big Adventure) round out the cast.
Both Telltale Games and Mojang expressed their excitement about collaborating as studios:
“We’ve worked closely with the amazing team at Mojang to ensure this story is a natural fit for the Minecraft world fans already know and love,” said Kevin Bruner, CEO and co-founder of Telltale Games. “As Jesse, players will steer their own path through a tale of adventure and survival; all brought to life by an all-star cast. Through Telltale’s choice-based gameplay and a story spanning from the Nether to the Farlands, the End, and beyond, we can’t wait for fans to experience this new take on the beloved world of Minecraft.”
“The interactive storytellers at Telltale are giving players the chance to explore their own unique interpretation of the Minecraft universe,” said Owen Hill, Chief Word Officer at Mojang. “They’ve crafted a story that follows the logic of Minecraft, but still manages to feel original. It’s actually pretty funny too. And the pig is adorable. We’re super excited about players digging deeper into the world of Minecraft: Story Mode later this year.”
Well there you have it, folks. I’m sure we’ll hear more soon, as the game is set to launch on PC/Mac, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and iOS/Android-based devices later this year.
