New York Comic Con starts tomorrow, and I am excited! There are so many great things and people coming to the Javits Center that even trying to figure out a schedule is a challenge! Not only are there a ton of appearances from Nerdist folks you know and love (including The Thrilling Adventure Hour, the Nerdist Writers Panel, and more!), there’s a whole slew of other sweet events to check out. Here are some of the highlights I’m anticipating.

First thing on Thursday, Walt Disney Animation and Walt Disney Studios are having a pretty cool first look at Big Hero 6 and Tomorrowland. Our fearless leader is moderating the panel, and I’m kind of pumped to see what is in Disney’s pipeline post-Frozen and all the obsession it has inspired. This is happening at 1pm.

Brian K. Vaughn is sitting down with our own Ben Blacker for the Nerdist Comics Panel on Friday at 4pm. I may not read a ton of different titles but Saga is one I inhale with every issue, and I can’t wait to see him sit down for an in depth discussion of his writing.

By Saturday, I fully plan to be in the throws of convention stupor, so I’m also planning on hitting up the Wikia’s Fantasy Food Fiction Live from 11:15-12pm. Because I need to know more about things like butterbeer, and what possesses anyone to dip fish sticks in custard. Hopefully, the celebrity chefs will enlighten me.

Speaking of comics, I’ll be hitting up the BOOM! Studios booth to try and snag a copy of the new Sleepy Hollow book from Marguerite Bennett with a cool convention cover by Noelle Stevenson. I will also be hunting up every opportunity to see panels about the show.

The very cool website The Mary Sue is sponsoring a Geek Girl Headquarters with charging stations, signings, special guests and prizes. As anyone who has been to a convention can tell you, the sheer number of people walking around and looking at stuff can be completely overwhelming, and it’s not always the most friendly place for the ladies (though it improves every single year). I’m excited to see what they do with the space!

Because there are times I still live in the Stone Age, it’s going to be pretty cool to see the unveiling of the new Batman stamps by the United Postal Service, and Jim Lee and Dan DiDio from DC Entertainment. We’re also going to get the chance to talk to Jim Cochrane, Chief Information Officer and EVP of the USPS, and Art Director Greg Breeding for an insider look at the new stamp series that commemorates 75 years of Batman.

Artists Alley at NYCC is one of my favorite things about the convention. The last few years have seen it move out of the main convention center and over into the North Pavilion. While the hallway to get there can feel like an unstoppable river of humanity, it has created this incredible space where artists of all types sell their stuff and chat with their fans. It feels twice as big as San Diego’s artists alley. I can’t wait to run into Katie Cook, James Silvani and so many more!

I might try my hand at wand dueling with the Harry Potter folk (this is happening almost every day so how can I not?), grab a few pictures with cosplayers you won’t see anywhere else (I saw my one and only Carmen SanDiego at NYCC two years ago), and inevitably will bring home more books than I should be allowed. It’s going to be an amazing weekend, and I plan on Instagramming as much of it as humanly possible. Hit me up at @bookoisseur if you’ve got special picture requests!
