New X-MEN: APOCALYPSE Concept Art Is Regenerating

Entertainment Weekly has been rolling out great bits from their Comic-Con issue over the past week. On top of pictures and tidbits for highly-anticipated films like Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice, or long-beloved television shows like Doctor Who, Entertainment Weekly has also brought us a look at a piece of concept art for the upcoming continuation of the X-Men franchise from director Bryan Singer.

x-men concept

X-Men: Apocalypse will see the X-Men take on the first mutant ever, Apocalypse, in a battle that will most likely put the world, if not the universe, in danger. Production is underway on the film, and we have seen plenty of pictures from the set already, but the concept art takes us somewhere we haven’t see yet. The picture we are presented with looks to be an explorer, maybe an archeologist or treasure hunter, coming across The Regeneration Chamber that villain Apocalypse uses in order to keep himself alive for millennia after millennia. As we saw in the post-credit sequence from Fox’s previous X-Men film, X-Men: Days Of Future Past, the next film will be maintaining the concept that Apocalypse has existed in the world since the time of ancient Egypt, and was even revered as a God by the primitive people who followed him.

The picture really gives of a tone that is reminiscent of the Mummy film series from the late ’90s and early 2000s, but unlike those films we all know that X-Men: Apocalypse will be set in the 1980s. This will of course follow the trend the recent X-Men films have followed of moving ahead at least 10 years every film since X-Men: First Class brought us back to the 1960s.

Be on the look out for X-Men: Apocalypse in theaters May 26th, 2016. Let us know what you think in the comments below!
