For nearly 40 years, Star Wars fans have relived the assault on the original Death Star, but never quite like this. EA and DICE have released a new gameplay trailer for the upcoming Death Star DLC in Star Wars: Battlefront, and it looks like it will be a fight to the finish.
Within Battlefront, the attack on the Death Star will take place in three phases. The first part will put the players in control of Rebel X-Wings and A-Wings as they approach the Death Star and attempt to survive wave after wave of TIE Fighters and Star Destroyers controlled by opposing players. Those who survive will make it to the second phase, where the Rebels actually land a small group of soldiers inside the Death Star itself. The new trailer features several glimpses of the gameplay for this level, as well as the new playable versions of Chewbacca and Bossk, the bounty hunter from The Empire Strikes Back. And this time, Bossk actually gets to speak!
The final phase will put players in control of the Death Star’s famous trench run, with Luke Skywalker’s X-Wing going up against Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced. In fact, the trailer cuts out just before Luke’s fateful shots presumably hit their target. We know the idea of remaking the original Star Wars is sacrilege, but adding an interior Death Star battle actually did a lot to freshen up the sequence in this video. It may even be an improvement on the film’s presentation of that event.
The Death Star DLC will be available for Star Wars: Battlefront season pass holders on September 20.
