The broadcast premiere of Preacher is only four weeks away and AMC is still downplaying the more outlandish aspects of the series. AMC has never shied away from depicting graphic violence, but itâs almost as if the network doesnât want people to realize just how far theyâre willing to go with the adaptation of Garth Ennis and Steve Dillonâs cult classic comic book series. So far, the trailers have only scratched the surface of what Preacher is about, and thereâs a lot of insanity to come.
AMC has released a new Preacher teaser trailer that offers only a few glimpses of the showâs wilder side, including a brief peak at Arseface (Ian Colletti) and Cassidy (Joe Gilgun) burning his hand with sunlight. Thereâs also a funny sequence in which Tulip (Ruth Negga) shows off a very crude looking homemade bazooka. But the primary focus of the new teaser is none other than the title character, Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper). Something extraordinary is going to happen to Jesse in the Preacher TV series. Note that âextraordinaryâ doesnât necessarily mean “good.”
Jesse is not exactly a pious man. The trailer hints at some darkness in his past and his motivation to return to his small town. Heâs still trying to find God, and soon enough, that existential crisis is going to become a very literal search for the Almighty himself. Thatâs right, Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy are bringing a whole new meaning to âfinding God.â
Preacher will premiere on Sunday, May 22 on AMC.
