In 2017, Marvel TV and Netflix will bring Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist together as The Defenders in an 8-episode miniseries. But that doesnât mean that some smaller crossovers wonât happen first. Like this one, highlighting the connective tissue of the first three we mentioned before.
Marvelâs Jessica Jones premieres Friday, November 20, and will introduce Mike Colter as Luke Cage prior to his own headlining TV turn in 2016. In the latest Jessica Jones teaser video, it’s revealed that Luke has a surprising link to the Daredevil series as the new owner of Josie’s Bar, favorite hangout of Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson), and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll).
That certainly seems like an easy way to set up a potential cameo from some of the Daredevil characters. The recently released Jessica Jones episode descriptions also appear to suggest a potential crossover between the two series with a well timed guest appearance. But that could be a fake-out for something else. After all, weâre still waiting for Iron Fist to make his official debut!
While the majority of Jessica Jones will deal with the title character’s struggle against Kilgrave (David Tennant), it will also follow Jessica (Krysten Ritter) as she forms a complicated relationship with Luke, which mirrors their courtship in Marvel’s comic book universe.
If you happened to be at New York Comic Conâs screening of the Jessica Jones pilot, you may recall that some of Luke and Jessicaâs racier scenes together appeared to make Marvel TV’s Jeph Loeb blush. The early reviews of Jessica Jones have also been nearly universal in their praise of the seriesâ dark tone, and we can’t wait to start binging it this Friday!
While you’re prepping for your binge, check out showrunner Melissa Rosenberg’s chat with Jessica Chobot:
