New HARRY POTTER Wands Tweeted by J.K. Rowling

It’s one thing for a writer to create a book that manages to become a bestseller, much less a whole series of them. Rarer still is for that writer to create a sprawling media empire, consisting of movies, theme parks, merchandise, and now a stage play of entirely new material. J.K. Rowling is a machine of magical merriment and her Harry Potter universe has not slowed one bit in the years since the release of the seventh and final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This summer will see the premiere of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, an original play based on a story written by Rowling that will be a brand new adventure for Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the rest of the witches and wizards at Hogwarts.

It’s not only a whole new cast tackling the roles made famous in the eight feature films, but they’re getting new accessories too! Early Monday morning, Rowling tweeted that rehearsals for the play are going well, and offered up some rough designs of the new wands for each of the main characters.

As you can see, these are going to be different wands from the ones fans know (and can buy replicas of in many places); Harry’s wand is all veiny, Hermione’s is all viney, and Draco Malfoy’s looks like a saber. Pretty interesting, even if you can’t quite make out all the words written.

The play is considered the eighth Harry Potter story, taking place 19 years after the final book, but not 19 years after the epilogue. Harry and his son Albus will be the main characters. It opens at the Palace Theater in London this June, so saddle up your Hippogriffs now. And, if you can’t make it to London, you can get your wizarding world fix when Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them hits movie theaters on November 18.

What do you think of the new Potter wands? Which one would you like in your hot little hands? Let us know in the comments below!
