MTV’s SCREAM Gets New Showrunners For Season 2

Changing showrunners is becoming more commonplace in the current TV market. Earlier this week, The Muppets made a mid-season showrunner change. And now MTV’s Scream is will get new showrunners for its upcoming second season.

Original Scream showrunners Jill Blotevogal and Jaime Paglia will be replaced by Michael Gans and Richard Register for Scream season two. Gans and Register previously wrote for MTV’s Celebrity Deathmatch before collaborating on the ABC Family series Make It or Break It. Blotevogal will remain with Scream as a consultant, but Paglia is leaving the series behind.

MTV reportedly made the decision to swap showrunners when Scream was renewed last July, but the new showrunners hadn’t been found at that time and it wasn’t clear if either Blotevogal or Paglia would stay in any capacity.

Blotevogal helped bring Scream out of its lengthy development process by rewriting the pilot script by Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin, for which all three writers received credit in the final version that premiered last June. Scream was loosely based on the horror movie series created by Kevin Williamson and the late Wes Craven. But the TV incarnation of Scream is more of a thematic successor than an actual sequel to the films.

The first season of MTV’s Scream starred Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, Amadeus Serafini, Connor Weil, Carlson Young, Jason Wiles, and Tracy Middendorf. We could tell you who the killer or killers were, but that would spoil the fun! And you’ll get your chance to catch up on Scream’s first season before the second season hits on April 20, 2016.
