TV-Cap: First Look at the New SCREAM Mask, New FEAR THE WALKING DEAD Photos, & More

We’re wrapping up the week on a high note, everybody. It’s Friday, and I have so many videos and photos to share that I’m not going to mess around. Grab your coffee and your headphones and keep scrolling to see the making of the Game of Thrones massacre in “Hardhome,” a teaser for Sharknado 3, photos from Fear the Walking Dead, and much much more.

Under the Mask. One aspect of the Scream franchise is instantly recognizable even if you haven’t seen the films: the Ghostface mask. So, why not change it? MTV has swapped out the iconic mask for their TV adaptation of Scream, and the new design is just as creepy. Executive producer Jill Blotevogel says, “It evokes some of the Jason hockey mask and the white Michael Myers mask, but it’s still first and foremost evocative of the Scream mask. It’s sort of a reinvention while also paying homage.” Just so. I wouldn’t want to see it appear in a dark room. The series premieres on June 30. [Entertainment Weekly]

Behind-the-Scenes. By now, you’ve hopefully watched the most recent episode of Game of Thrones, titled “Hardhome.” If you haven’t, move along to avoid spoilers. The episode delivered the most intense and terrifying battle sequences of the series, and if you’re dying to see how it was put together, HBO has released a video to satisfy your curiosity. “Impressive” is the best word to describe it. Sharks in the Sky. It’s happening again! Sharks are leaving the ocean and falling onto land in a swirling cone of teeth and fins. Sharknado 3 debuts on Syfy on July 22, and the first teaser shows that the ridiculous levels are high (in the best way). [Slashfilm]

Monster Business. The first season of The Strain showed us how the vampire virus/apocalypse began, and Season 2 runs with the business of trying to save the day. FX’s first look ahead shows it’s getting awfully gruesome with higher stakes than ever. The show returns on July 12. Buckle up.

A Different Clone. We’re all familiar with the versatility and skill of Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany. She’s impressed us with her portrayals of all the clones for three seasons. But, she has an acting double who isn’t as well known–Kathryn Alexandre. Variety’s Laura Prudom interviewed Alexandre about working with Maslany, the clone dance party, and more. Read the entire fascinating interview at Variety.

A Quiet Life. AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead premieres at some point this summer, and though we know a little about the series, there aren’t a ton of details available. Entertainment Weekly shared three new stills and spoke with Robert Kirkman to get the scoop on a handful of characters: Madison (Kim Dickens), Travis (Cliff Curtis), Alicia (Alycia Debnam-Carey), Matt (Maestro Harrell), and Nick (Frank Dillane). Get some hints about them at Entertainment Weekly. [Comic Book Resources]

Taking Care of Business. The now Colbeard-less Stephen Colbert has named the band leader for The Late Show. It’s all coming together. He’s chosen Jon Batiste, a jazz musician. Fancy. [A.V. Club]

More Mack. The series regular roster on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. continues to expand. They’ve upped Luke Mitchell and also Henry Simmons. Alphonso “Mack” Mackenzie has become one of the best parts of the series, and I’m excited to hear we’ll continue to see him around in Season 3. [Nerdist]

Patrick Stewart Feelings. Curious about Starz’s Blunt Talk starring Patrick Stewart? A new featurette will tell you most things you need to know about the series that follows news anchor Walter Blunt through his deeds and many misdeeds. The important takeaway from the featurette is this: Stewart is hilarious. Blunt Talk will debut on August 22.

What are your thoughts on the new Scream mask? Did it need to be changed? Let me know in the comments.
