Ex Machina

The latest trailer for writer-director Alex Garland’s AI thriller Ex Machina has us more excited than ever for what’s being hailed as a chillingly stylish cautionary tale. Starring Oscar Isaac, Alicia Vikander, and Domhnall Gleeson, the film is now playing in limited release and opens in many more theaters this Friday.

Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan believes there’s still plenty of life left in the beloved fairy tale “Jack and the Beanstalk.” He’s developed a “detailed outline” for a “revisionist take” on the tale, titled Beanstalk. Disney, which last ventured into this territory with the animated short Mickey and the Beanstalk, has bought the project, and Gilligan is getting Thomas Schnauz (with whom we collaborated on Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul) to write the script

Maggie

Abigail Breslin’s last zombie movie had us crying tears of laughter, but her latest looks like the sad kind of tear-jerker. The trailer for Maggie — co-starring Arnold Schwarezenegger as Breslin’s dad, desperate to save his daughter from an undead-spawning virus–has landed online, and it promises a gloomy, doom-laden time at the movies. Maggie opens in theaters and On Demand on May 8.
