Interstellar

The Earth doesn’t want us anymore. At least that’s the takeaway in the latest and greatest Interstellar trailer yet, the final trailer before the film’s release on November 7th. If you know anyone who’s remained apathetic to director Christopher Nolan’s work, sit them down in front of your computer and show them this preview NOW, because it’s phenomenal. [HitFix]

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales

Remember David Fincher’s would-be adaptation of Jules Verne’s Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea? The film never happened but it will still have a huge impact on the next chapter in Disney’s Pirates of the Caribbean saga, because the money that Australia was prepared to give Fincher’s production to shoot on its shining shores is now the booty of one Captain Jack Sparrow. The Aussie government has approved $18.9 million in “location-based incentives” to nab the production. According to the country’s Minister for the Arts, George Brandis, “This film will be the largest international feature film ever to shoot in Australia and will focus the world’s attention on Australia as a leading film destination.” Filming begins in Queensland in February for a July 7, 2017 release date.

Now You See Me 2

It looks like Harry Potter will soon be back in the magic business, albeit magic of a very different kind. Acting legend Michael Caine just announced that Daniel Radcliffe will play his character’s son in the sequel to last year’s surprise hit Now You See Me. G.I. Joe: Retaliation director Jon Chu is at the film’s helm, with actors Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Isla Fisher, Dave Franco, and Mark Ruffalo all returning for a 2016 release date. The ever enthusiastic Caine remarks, “There’s a sequel to Now You See Me and we’re shooting in London. I shoot in December, the whole of December in London, and my son is Harry Potter.” [JoBlo]

I Am Legend

It’s not a sequel, it’s not a prequel — it’s a reboot. Though Will Smith won’t star in Warner Brothers’ new take on the classic Richard Matheson vampire novel I Am Legend, the studio is moving forward in developing a script, “retrofitting A Garden At The End Of The World, a spec script that the studio bought back in April from Gary Graham, who was working at the Apple store in midtown Manhattan when he posted his script on the Black List website.” Graham’s script has been described as science-fiction version of the classic John Ford western The Searchers, but there’s no word on what shape it will take after the retrofit. Despite the absence of Smith, producer Akiva Goldsman (who scripted the 2007 film) returns to oversee the project. [Deadline]

Universal Monsters

Dracula Untold, Universal’s retelling of Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula (which, like Francis Ford Coppola’s version of the story, envisions the vampire count as a historical figure) is due in theaters next Friday, October 10th. But despite the fact that it was completed before the studio announced its intention to reboot its shared universe monster movie classics (under writer-producers Alex Kurtzman and Chris Morgan), the new Drac apparently leaves the door open for the character to join this bold new universe, at least according to advance screenings. Shaun of the Dead

And here’s your Halloween treat for the day! This weekend, TV’s Phineas and Ferb presents its Halloween Special “Night of the Living Pharmacists”, in which “Doofenshmirtz’s latest ‘-inator’ accidentally turns the citizens of Danville into contagious Doof-zombies who run rampant all over town.” Of greatest interest to movie fans, however, is the appearance of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost voicing their Shaun of the Dead characters, and a cameo from zombie godfather George Romero.
