Movie Morsels: DOCTOR STRANGE Casting Rumor, JURASSIC WORLD Poster, FOXCATCHER Trailer, and More

TGIWednesday! No? You’re right no one says that. I’m sorry. To make it up to you, we’ve assembled a killer edition of Movie Morsels for your perusing pleasure. With everything from the first official Jurassic World poster to a new contender to play Doctor Strange to the latest trailer for Foxcatcher to new release dates for Independence Day 2, Hot Tub Time Machine 2 and beyond, there’s more movie news than your body can handle, so keep that doctor on speed dial.

Doctor Strange

Since it’s going to be a hot minute before we hear anything about the fate of a potential young Obi-Wan Star Wars spin-off film, it makes sense that Ewan McGregor would start eyeing other projects. And that other projects would start eyeing him too. The latest rumor is that Marvel is eyeing McGregor to don the red cape for the lead role in Scott Derrickson’s Doctor Strange. Since the news broke that Joaquin Phoenix would not be the MCU’s Sorcerer Supreme, fans have been bandying about names like Keanu Reeves and Ethan Hawke. Sources have said that McGregor has been prepping for the role by “doing the usual research actors do when looking at taking on an adaptation or existing character.” I’ve got to say though, I’m pretty on board with McGregor. Although Keanu is still a weirdly inspired rumor. [Badass Digest]

Jurassic World

The Universal marketing team spared no expense and as a result we have our first official Jurassic World poster! With a stark black background and a misty silver logo, the poster simply reads “The Park is Open”, which still manages to get me extremely excited in spite of the fact that I didn’t really care about The Lost World or Jurassic Park 3. In any event, it’ll help tide me over until the film hits theaters on June 12, 2015.

Foxcatcher

One of my most anticipated movies of the fall, Foxcatcher, has a brand new trailer and now I will do increasingly desperate things to see it until it hits theaters on November 14.

In an interview with Yahoo, star Channing Tatum, a former football star, revealed that the shooting process was intense, especially learning how to wrestle:

It was the most suffocating sport I’d ever played…You can box and hit the bag or something like that, but you can’t wrestle if you don’t want to actually do it. It’s a thankless, painful sport.

Well, thank you, Channing. Thank you very much. [Indiewire]

Pirates of the Caribbean 5

Yes, it’s happening. No, there’s nothing you can do about it. Yes, Johnny Depp is back. No, Orland Bloom isn’t back. Yes, there will be a villain, and it might be none other than Javier Bardem. Click through the get all the details. [Nerdist]

Hot Time Time Machine 2

It’s some kind of Hot Tub…Time Machine…2! The sequel to 2010’s Hot Tub Time Machine has done a little space-time travel of its own already, transporting itself from its original December 25, 2014 release date to February 20, 2015. Presumably, this is to avoid going head to head with Seth Rogen and James Franco’s The Interview, but if you ask me, it’s entirely due to the fact that it’ll be way colder in February and more people will be drawn towards the words “Hot Tub”. Independence Day 2

In other release date shifting news, the sequel that no one can really believe is happening, Independence Day 2, is moving from its original July 1, 2016 date to the earlier June 24, 2016, which just so happens to be the same day that Universal’s The Mummy reboot lurches into theaters. All I’m saying is that if they don’t make the tagline “Welcome back to Earth”, then someone deserves to be sternly reprimanded.

20th Century Fox didn’t stop there though; they also moved Hitman: Agent 47, based on the popular video game series, from February 27 to August 28. That Hitman…so sneaky. [ComingSoon]

Figment

It’s always money in Philadelphia for Rob McElhenney. The It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia co-creator and star is going to be climbing into the director’s chair soon. He brought a seriously impressive pitch to Legendary Pictures in the form of a four-minute test reel for a family action film called Figment. The film follows a majorly imaginative little boy and his family, who are put in mortal peril when their deepest fears ocme to life. The film is said to be in the grand tradition of epic family films like E.T., which is pretty lofty praise. If It’s even half as inspired as the Rum Ham, though, I’ll be way, way onboard. [ScreenCrush]

Dead Snow 3

Dead Snow 2 main

Well, the sequel to Swedish Nazi zombie movie Dead Snow may have just rolled out, but Dead Snow 2: Red vs. Dead director Tommy Wirkola is already thinking about the next film. Speaking with Shock Till You Drop, Wirkola revealed some details about the sequel:

“We have some ideas. We want to make a trilogy some time, if this does well. As you know, he [protagonist Martin] has a woman now, so we can deal with that. Maybe he has half-zombie kids. We haven’t seen half-zombies. We talked about opening the next film showing a zombie birth and it being the worst birth ever. These are just ideas for now, but I feel one more [film] could happen if this one does well”

Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to throw up forever. [JoBlo]
