Movie Morsels: AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR Differences and DOCTOR STRANGE’S First Trailer!

It’s Wednesday morning, and there’s no better way to get through hump day than another healthy installment of Movie Morsels!

Today, we’ve got a new update about Avengers: Infinity War, the first trailer for Doctor Strange, some bad news for Thor fans, a few comments about Indiana Jones 5 from Frank Marshall, an Office star’s potential intergalactic adventure, a surprising addition to Kingsman: The Golden Circle, and the new name for Underworld 5!

Begin!

Captain America: Civil War will be out in just a few short weeks, but directors Anthony and Joe Russo are already moving on to an even bigger project: the two-part Avengers: Infinity War that will wrap up Marvel’s Phase III films. While speaking with io9, the Russo brothers indicated that each part of Infinity War will be distinct from the other.

“The movies are very very different from one another,” said Anthony Russo. “It’s not a part one and part two scenario, necessarily. They’re just two different expressions. I think it creates a misconception that we’re shooting them at the same time.”

“I think having the amount of characters we have in [Civil War] certainly prepares us to deal with probably triple the amount of characters in Infinity War,” added Joe Russo.

Avengers: Infinity War Part 1 will be released on May 4, 2018, while Part 2 will follow on May 3, 2019.

Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange Poster

Last night, we were wrapped up in the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak when Marvel unveiled the first trailer for Doctor Strange. By the Vishanti, it was freakin’ awesome! We’ll be taking a closer look at the Doctor Strange footage in Nerdist News later today. But first, here’s an encore of our new favorite Marvel trailer.

We can’t wait for November 4 to see the rest of Doctor Strange!

Thor: Ragnarok

It’s not all good news in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the wake of Tessa Thompson’s part in Thor: Ragnarok, reports are contending that Natalie Portman will not reprise her role as Jane Foster in the third Thor movie.

Not cool.

While the reasons behind this move are unclear, the first two Thor movies revolved around Jane’s relationship with the God of Thunder. That romance deserves closure, and more importantly, Jane Foster has a heroic destiny in the Marvel universe. Portman’s departure may mean that we won’t see Jane come into her own as a heroine.

Thor: Ragnarok will storm into theaters on November 3, 3017.

Indiana Jones 5

Indiana Jones producer Frank Marshall dropped a few comments about Indy 5 at CinemaCon. Marshall reiterated that no actor will play Indiana Jones except Harrison Ford. Marshall also indicated that Indiana Jones 5 would be a “continuation” of Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. That’s the news that isn’t sitting so well with fans.

We broke down Marshall’s remarks on yesterday’s Nerdist News and offered up a few theories about where the franchise is heading.

God Particle

J.J. Abrams is sending Jim Halpert to outer space! Well…more accurately, one of the former stars of The Office, John Krasinski is in negotiations to join the cast of the Abrams-produced film God Particle. The story reportedly follows a team of astronauts “who make a terrifying discovery that challenges everything they know about the fabric of reality, as they desperately fight for survival.”

Presumably, Krasinski would play one of the astronauts, and not the thing that scared the space crap out of them.

Kingsman: The Golden Circle

Elton John

Could rock icon Sir Elton John be joining the sequel to Kingsman? John is reportedly in talks to play a role in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, but it isn’t clear if he’ll portray himself or step into that world as one of the characters who inhabits it.

We think Elton John could be a great over-the-top villain, but maybe not the big bad of the entire film. Kingsman: The Golden Circle will be out on June 16, 2017.

Underworld: Blood Wars

Underworld

There will be blood in the fifth Underworld film. It’s in the new title! Plus, you know, it’s a vampire movie. Blood is kind of a prerequisite for those films.

Screen Gems and Lakeshore Entertainment have announced that the title of the movie is Underworld: Blood Wars. Kate Beckinsale, Theo James, and Charles Dance are all returning, but there’s currently no indication that Scott Speedman will join them when Underworld: Blood Wars opens on October 14, 2016.
