Monty Python Strikes Again with TOTAL RUBBISH: THE COMPLETE COLLECTION

Last Tuesday, July 1st, saw the five surviving members of Britain’s beloved comedy troupe Monty Python reunite on stage once more for the first of ten shows at London’s O2 arena for Monty Python Live (Mostly). The boys’, er, septuagenarians’ first live production together since 1980 drew mostly positive reviews from the English press and cost a reported 7.7 million dollars. But hey, when you’re talking about the Beatles of comedy, no price is too high. If you did not get tickets to one of the reunion shows, however, don’t despair — there’s more than one way to enjoy Python again.

As we reported last month, Monty Python Live (Mostly) will be broadcast live to theaters across the country on July 20th (purchase tickets here), with rebroadcasts occurring on July 23rd and 24th (purchase tickets here). Almost as exciting for longtime hardcore Monty Python fans is the news that the team’s long out-of-print record LPS are again being made available for a new generation to enjoy on turntables for the first time (and an older generation to enjoy digitally for the first time).

A couple months back we also told you of how the classic Monty Python Sings LP will be reissued with five new songs. But this two-CD release is just the tip of the iceberg. The career-spanning Monty Python’s Total Rubbish: The Complete Collection box set was released last week in the UK by UMC on CD and vinyl (pictured above). It contains all nine of Monty Python’s UK albums: Monty Python’s Flying Circus, Another Monty Python Record, Monty Python’s Previous Record, Matching Tie and Handkerchief, Live at Drury Lane, Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Monty Python’s Contractual Obligation Album, The Meaning Of Life, and a limited edition 7″ single of the 1974 flexi-disc Monty Python’s Tiny Black Round Thing. Total Rubbish also comes with a hardback book with liner notes by Python’s Michael Palin.

So eat up, folks — there’s a lot of Python on the menu!
