Chris Hemsworth and Tessa Thompson may not have saved Asgard from Ragnarok, but we suspect they’ll do a bang-up job of protecting Earth and getting people to stare into flashy things as the latest MIBs, Agents H and M. Trading in Norse armor for basic suits, they still bring the charm and the heroism in the brand new trailer for MIB International, which takes a more global approach to intergalactic criminality.
This isn’t a full reboot like the new Hellboy;Â J and K are presumably off on another mission somewhere, but Emma Thompson returns as the U.S.-based MIB head Agent O, and the action this time switches to London, where Liam Neeson is the local bureau boss, with a completely different particular set of skills (though some, we assume, are similar). With F. Gary Gray in the director’s chair, it’s no surprise that this installment looks like it has more hard-hitting action than prior installments by the more whimsically minded Barry Sonnenfeld.
Kumail Nanjiani and Rebecca Ferguson are among the other familiar actors in the cast, with screenplay duties handled by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, who showed a knack for blending action, humor, and comic-book source material in the original Iron Man and Punisher: War Zone. Both featuring protagonists who could rock a stylish suit and an all-black outfit, respectively. We’re liking what we see so far, and only wish there were a nearby flashy thing so we could watch it again for the first time.
MIB International opens June 14, 2019.
