Martin Freeman Will Be in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR

So Avengers: Age of Ultron has been out for all of five seconds but that doesn’t mean Marvel is dillydallying as far as Phase 3 is concerned. In fact, quite the opposite is going down, as the comic book and entertainment juggernaut has announced that none other than John Watson/Bilbo Baggins/Arthur Dent himself — Martin Freeman — will be taking up arms in some capacity for Captain America: Civil War. UNLEASH THE GLEEFUL SQUEES OF ALL THE FANDOMS, folks!

Though we’ve literally zero details on what role Freeman will play in the big screen story, his addition is an exciting one given the actor’s penchant for intelligent and fun genre business. (And yes as far as we’re concerned those accents in Fargo definitely allow it a genre classification, don’tcha know.)

What we do know so far about Civil War, though, is thus. Tied to the aftermath of Avengers: Age of Ultron, the film will essentially be an adaptation of Mark Millar’s 2007 limited series Civil War, scripted by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeeley. You know, the dudes who wrote Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Agent Carter, and are slated to pen both parts of Avengers: Infinity War? Yeah, so, y’know — promising thing has been made all-the-more promising thanks to a very promising young actor lad out of Aldershot, England. Yay!

How excited are you for the inclusion of Martin Freeman to the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Let’s have a GIF party in the comments.

Captain America: Civil War slingshots into theaters on May 6th, 2016.
