Mark Millar and Greg Capullo Talk Their New Afterlife Epic REBORN (Exclusive)

Fans of Mark Millar have a fair idea of what they should expect from any new project announced by the prolific comic book writer. As he established footing in the most popular titles flying beneath the DC and Marvel banners, Millar broadened his creative horizons to bring the world his own original stories. Though the products of Millar’s imagination vary in many ways, fans of the author recognize his presence across the likes of Wanted, Kick-Ass, Superior, and Secret Service, and keep coming back for more as a result.

Though Millar’s next endeavor is just as likely to delight his loyal readers, it’s bound to do more in the way of surprises than any recent offering. We spoke with Millar at New York City’s Midtown Comics about his new Image Comics series Reborn, which the author appreciates as his first go at epic fantasy, and first effort to tackle an adventure from a female perspective.

The comic tells the story of a nonagenarian woman who passes on from our world and is—here’s the kicker!—reborn into another, and what’s more as a young warrior who finds herself smack-dab in the middle of an otherworldly interspecies battle.

Reborn is a departure not only for its writer, but for its artist as well. Greg Capullo, known foremost for his work on X-Force, Spawn, and Batman, takes his first step into the fantastical, calling the project the closest thing he’s done in his professional life to “being the little kid who’s lying on the carpet with his pencil and his pad, letting his imagination go wild.” Capullo also joined us at Midtown Comics to talk about the project and how he and Millar hitched wagons to bring this new venture to life.

Watch the video above to hear Millar and Capullo speak more on Reborn, and look out for the comic when it hits shelves on Wednesday.
