The world desperately needs more heroes these days, but unfortunately we have far too many villains, like this tale about a man who is suing his date for texting during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

We came across this report featuring two terrible people at Entertainment Weekly, and it comes from the Austin American-Statesman. Brandon Vezmar, a 37-year-old man and not a small child, is suing his date in small claims court for $17.31 cents, the cost of a 3D ticket to the movie, because she was texting during it. Allegedly the woman started using her phone about 15 minutes into the film, and according to him she “activated her phone at least 10-20 times in 15 minutes to read and send text messages,” but she claims it was only two or three times.

The two were on a first date after they met online, but he (rightfully) asked her to stop, and when she didn’t he (rightfully) asked her to go outside. In response she then left the theater altogether, leaving him without a ride home, but saving everyone else from her rudeness. A few days later he (wrongly) asked her for the cost of her ticket, but when she ignored him he then (super wrongly) asked her little sister about the money. Now he’s filed a lawsuit, because nothing matters anymore.

Alamo Drafthouse has since offered him a gift card for the same amount so he’ll drop the claim, but at this point who cares. People who use their phones in a movie theater should be put in jail, but people who can’t handle a date going poorly should be removed from society entirely.

Ironically this story without a hero proves that in Guardians Vol. 2 Ego had a point about life. Sometimes we are just the worst.
