A Superhero Makeover for the World’s Currency

The leaders of the world are front and center on currency from the United States to China. But what if they took a break from circulation and allowed characters from comic books to step in?

Artist Alessandro Rabatti has imagined what that world would look like with his “Facebank” project. He doesn’t merely replace the icons of the real world with fictional superheroes, he combines the portraits and elements already on the currency to create fresh pieces of art. Abraham Lincoln becomes The Flash, the Bat-Signal shines in the sky on the fifty dollar bill, and so forth.

Rabatti has altered money and banknotes from the United States, the United Kingdom, and China. Having monies like this available might make me more inclined to actually carry cash:

Rabatti’s superhero currency is cool enough to look at and would certainly make him some bank if they were made available as prints, but the artist is also making a statement. He says by reimagining the various forms of cash, “a series of alternated figures come to life which aim to reflect and convey the symbolic value of money and inspire thoughts about the current economic crisis.”

More of Rabatti’s Facebank series is in the gallery below. Be sure to flip through all of them and then head to the comments to tell us what superhero you think deserves to be on dollar bills, y’all.
