Make a MAD MAX-Style Flame-Throwing Guitar Like this Madman

Mad Max was my favorite movie of 2015. The aesthetic—one part industrial punk, one part Waterworld (but, you know, without the water and way better), and seven parts maniacal tour de force—was mesmerizing. And nothing epitomized that better than the deranged dude strapped to a semi with a flame-throwing guitar. The Doof Warrior was the post-apocalyptic equivalent of a military drummer boy, and it was only a matter of time before someone wanted to be him.

Professional liability Colin Furze, creator of the thermite cannon and the fireworks bazooka, has built his very own flame-throwing guitar—as Sploid explains. Furze showcases the invention in a new video (see above). From the depths of some (hopefully) fireproof room, Furze sits at a drumset while another dude plays the fiery instrument. While he’s playing drums, Furze screams details of the guitar’s design:

We’ve got blow torch ends with pilot lights. We’ve got a pressurized gas chamber. It’s all controlled by an Intel Curie…which only means one thing: with the push of a button, you’ve got FIRE.

Then, Furze grabs the guitar and proceeds to play it on top of various buildings with all the crazed energy of our Max Max guitar friend.

As part of Intel’s America’s Greatest Makers, Furze also shared two videos about the creation process itself. In 17 highly energetic minutes, the inventor explains how to build both a smoking/strobing bass guitar and the combustible musical machine that is the flame-throwing guitar.

It should go without saying, but don’t try this at home. If you want to start your guitar on fire, do it like Jimi Hendrix did. Actually don’t do that either—just watch the videos. They’re plenty enjoyable.
