It’s been a few weeks now since it was first released, but we’re all still in awe of Mad Max: Fury Road, right? George Miller’s return to the post-Apocalyptic world he created after some thirty years later was the much-needed shot in the arm to the summer movie landscape we were all waiting for, no slight to Avengers: Age of Ultron intended (I still love ya, Avengers, don’t worry). Miller’s movie is state of the art, and still manages to feel like a throwback to an earlier era of blockbuster filmmaking in the best possible way.
Of course, you know a movie has really hit the pop culture zeitgeist these days by how many homages and parodies the internet cranks out, and when it comes to Mad Max, we’ve had a few already. (How many people do you know on Twitter who have added the title “Imperator” to their names? More than a few, I bet.)
Most notable among these homages is the awesome music video of Tina Turner’s “We Don’t Need Another Hero” from Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome, spliced together with footage from Fury Road. Now we’ve got another homage from YouTube user PLAYBACK Collective, that’s also a throwback to Mad Max’ low budget 1980’s roots: a trailer for Fury Road done in the grindhouse style you might have seen play in front of action movies like Megaforce at the local mall movie theater in 1983. It’s got the synth music, the cheesy narrator voice-over, the works. Watch it and put yourself in the mood to watch Fury Road for the eleventh time.
