MAD MAX: FURY ROAD “Black & Chrome” Edition Coming to Blu-ray

Warner Bros is carrying Mad Max fans once more to the gates of Valhalla, with the Mad Max: Fury Road Black & Chrome Edition coming to home video! Also in today’s Movie Morsels, the latest from James Cameron on expanding his Avatar universe, a casting update for Alita: Battle Angel, and much more!

Mad Max: Fury Road

Oh, what a day… what a lovely day! Director George Miller originally intended his much acclaimed Mad Max: Fury Road to be released in black and white. And Warner Bros has finally seen fit to grant the Oscar-nominated filmmaker his wish. December 6 will see the release of the Mad Max High Octane Collection, containing all four chapters of the Mad Max screen saga, along with the “Black & Chrome” Edition of Fury Road and five hours of bonus content…

If all you want is the “Black & Chrome” Edition, however, then no worries—it will be made available in a separate release for just $29.98, packaged with the theatrical cut of Fury Road and a special introduction from Miller…

Avatar

Avatar

With Cirque du Soleil’s Avatar stage show (titled Toruk) currently in production, James Cameron has spoken with Vulture about the franchise for which he’s announced no less than four sequel films.

“It’s always a reflection of our world,” says Cameron of the universe he’s constructing. “It wouldn’t have any relevance if it wasn’t a refraction through a lens of fantasy or science fiction of the things that are going on in our world, whether it’s the struggle if you look at this Standing Rock confrontation between Native Americans and the authorities that’s going on right now, that’s just an example of the kind of things that Avatar is about, metaphorically. It’s going on throughout Central and South America. Indigenous people confronting big hydroelectric dam projects or confront oil companies, that sort of thing. It’s the world we live in. It’s also about our relationship with technology and how we’re a much more urbanized society then we used to be. We’re far, far down through the looking glass of our own technology now, and I think part of us is yearning for that reconnection to nature, and that’s what the Avatar films will remind us of.”

More James Cameron news! In his ongoing campaign to star in as many different comic book adaptations as possible, Jackie Earle Haley—of Human Target, Watchmen, Preacher (pictured above), and The Tick fame—has signed on to star in Cameron’s long-in-development Alita: Battle Angel. Based on the popular manga, the film will be directed by Robert Rodriguez and star Maze Runner‘s Rosa Salazar. Haley is believed to be playing “a monstrous cyborg in a villain role that will call for plenty of CG and greenscreen.” These are elements the actor is all too familiar with after his time on the Nightmare on Elm Street remake and The Dark Tower.

Super Troopers 2

It’s hard to believe that Rob Lowe was once known only as a dramatic actor and teen heartthrob. But ever since Wayne’s World, and especially since Parks and Recreations, Lowe’s St. Elmo’s Fire days are loooong gone. His latest comedic outing will be Super Troopers 2, which the funny filmmaking troupe Broken Lizard—made up of Jay Chandrasekhar, Kevin Heffernan, Steve Lemme, Paul Soter and Erik Stolhanske—revealed yesterday on Twitter…

Super Troopers 2 started shooting last week in Boston, and will be directed by Jay Chandrasekhar.

Trolls

Finally today, imagine my surprise when I watched the following preview and learned that Trolls is NOT a film about GamerGate! This latest look at the Dreamworks animated epic, arriving November 4 and based on the perennially popular toy line, is introduced by its voice stars Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake…
