LUKE CAGE Goes FAMILY MATTERS in New Parody Video

While we’re waiting on what we hope will be the inevitable renewal of Luke Cage for a second season on Netflix, a new video has put the events of that series in the much sunnier context of a classic family comedy series.

YouTube user Zach Ace has given Luke Cage a Family Matters style opening credit sequence, complete with the “As Days Go By” theme song by Jesse Frederick. But as part of the video, series star Mike Colter was bumped down to the fourth spot in the credits, while Frankie Faison’s Henry “Pop” Hunter and Alfre Woodard’s Mariah Dillard got to headline as Luke Cage’s more “parental” figures. Amusingly, Mahershala Ali’s Cottonmouth got the slot occupied by Jaleel White in Family Matters, while Rob Morgan’s Daredevil character, Turk, was introduced as “Turkel.” It’s fitting, because White’s Steve Urkel character was frequently told to “go home!” by the other characters on Family Matters. Turk got a similar reception in Luke Cage.

It’s amazing how the music and the smiling faces change the context of the Luke Cage footage and make it appear to be a much more upbeat show. Ace also released a comparison of the Family Matters and Luke Cage parody credits side-by-side, and it’s interesting to see a few parallels between them. But clearly there’s no home for Detective Scarfe in this extended family!

Ace has previously released a Full House style opening credits for The Avengers, and we’re eager to see what he comes up with next.
