His art makes the comic its own experience and you should absolutely read and enjoy the comics. That said, the audiobook is its own experience and it’s elevated by some awesome performances and killer production values.

If you have never read Locke & Key, you are really missing out. It’s the story of a family who, in an attempt to start over after a horrific tragedy, move to a quiet house in a small town that is filled with secrets and spirits. It’s a beautifully crafted tale that is one of the best comics of the modern age. Without out a doubt, it’s a masterpiece and something you need to check out, comic fan or not. Since it’s a free audiobook now, you are officially out of excuses.

This thing features the voice talents of folks like Tatiana Maslany, Haley Joel Osment, and Kate Mulgrew. It’s presented as a full audio drama, which is something comics have been adapted into for a very long time. Series writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez clearly poured their dark, twisted hearts into this book and it is worth experiencing anyway you can. Hell, even if you have read the comics, this thing is freaking free so you might as well check it out.
