Karen Gillan on Nebula’s Fate in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2

Is everyone’s favorite blue bald space villain lightening up a little in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2? Actress Karen Gillan gives us some intriguing clues about what’s in store for Nebula in today’s Movie Morsels. Plus, Maisie Williams discusses her new stop-motion project with Aardman Animation, we preview the latest clip from Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, and oh so much more cinematic goodness…

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Guardians of the Galaxy

Though she didn’t get a ton of screen time in the film, Karen Gillan’s Nebula was one of my favorite characters in Guardians of the Galaxy, as much for her take-no-prisoners attitude as her striking alien look. In Guardians 2, however, the sword-slinging daughter of Thanos will align herself with the title team — but for how long? In a new interview with The Wrap, Gillan teases the character’s destiny…

“What I love about the second movie for Nebula in particular is that we get — We know that she’s a pretty angry woman with some daddy issues. [But] in the second movie, we’re going to start to see how much pain her father actually caused her, and we’re going to delve right into the relationship with her sister Gamora… I think we might even feel a tinge of sympathy towards Nebula this time, because we really start to see the emotional crack in her character. I was just allowed to completely explore that and take it to a completely different dimension with her. I was really happy about that.”

As for whether or not she again shaved her head to portray Nebula, Gillan remarks, “I shaved half of my head this time, but they took away the butt — like, the underneath-half of my hair, and then left the top part. That was the best gift ever.”

Early Man

The other day we shared with you the trailer for Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams’ new Netflix movie iBoy. And today we hear that the once and future Arya Stark’s film career is just getting started, since the actress has signed on to join Eddie Redmayne and Tom Hiddleston in the voice cast for Aardman Animation’s next feature Early Man. Between the Wallace and Gromit shorts and last year’s masterful Shaun the Sheep movie, Aardman can do no wrong in my book. So I’m pretty damn thrilled one of my favorite young actresses is teaming up with them. Williams herself revealed the news about the prehistoric adventure film via Twitter…

In a statement in The Hollywood Reporter, Williams said, “I’m a huge Aardman fan – having the chance to work with Nick Park is a dream come true, especially as I get to voice such a fantastic character as Goona. I can’t wait for audiences to meet her.”

Goona, THR explains, is “the gallant and indomitable rebel who befriends the film’s hero, Dug (Redmayne), and helps steer him through the clash of the Stone Age and Bronze Age civilizations.”

The film’s director, animation legend Nick Park (who created Wallace and Gromit), added, “Maisie is a terrific actress, and she is of course no stranger to embodying a valiant heroine. I’m most excited to see her breathe life into Goona – I know she’ll be the perfect ally to Eddie’s Dug.”

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Just a week and a half remains until Milla Jovovich’s Alice battles the Umbrella Corporation for the last time (or so we’re told) in Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. So let’s stoke your excitement, shall we? Here’s a new clip from the film, in which Alice goes all Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade on Game of Thrones‘ Iain Glen — who’s back as the evil Dr. Isaacs…

Goosebumps 2

Jack-Black-Goosebumps

With a horde of monsters and a group of plucky young heroes pitted against them, Goosebumps was a welcome throwback to ’80s Amblin family fare like Gremlins and Goonies. So it comes as little surprise that the film’s sequel has just received an official release date via Exhibitor Relations…

Director Rob Letterman and screenwriter Darren Lemke are confirmed to return. We don’t know if star Jack Black will follow suit, but since Black had such a ball making the first one (the set of which I visited a few years back), I wouldn’t be a bit surprised to see him slick back his hair and don spectacles once more as author R.L. Stine.

David Brent: Life on the Road

We’ve been hearing about Ricky Gervais’ office spinoff film David Brent: Life on the Road for what seems like forever. So a hearty thank you to Netflix for finally releasing this film, along with a hilarious new trailer about the middle manager turned middling music performer…

Girlfriend’s Day

And speaking of Netflix… The streaming network has released the trailer for another hard-luck comedy: Girlfriend’s Day, starring Better Call Saul and Mr. Show‘s Bob Odenkirk and Amber Tamblyn (the real-life wife of Odenkirk’s Mr. Show partner David Cross). The film features Odenkirk as a failed romance card writer who sees his ticket to fame (or at least sobriety) in the form of a newly christened holiday…

Wilson

Last but by no means least today, we have the latest trailer for Wilson. Based on Ghost World creator Daniel Clowes’ acclaimed graphic novel, the film stars Woody Harrelson in the title role of a misanthrope on a voyage of self-discovery, who reconnects with his ex-wife only to learn — he has a teenage daughter. Cue the record scratch… Wilson makes its world premiere at this month’s Sundance Film Festival before opening everywhere March 24th.
