Woody Harrelson on His Role in the HAN SOLO STAR WARS Film, and More Movie News

Happy Friday, folks! There’s a lot of worthwhile films from last year that are only now making their way to theaters this month–films like Jim Jarmusch’s Paterson and Martin Scorsese’s Silence. But before you head out to catch one of these this weekend, we’ve got some cinematic goodness for you right here in today’s Movie Morsels, including word from Woody Harrelson about the character he’ll play in the first Han Solo Star Wars spinoff film. Plus, new TV spots for John Wick: Chapter 2 and xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and much more!

Woody Harrelson always brings his A-game to the films he makes, so what’s in store for us when the actor heads to that galaxy far, far away for the eagerly awaited Han Solo solo film? (Or, as I like to call it, the “Solo squared” film.)  We’ve got our first clue now that Harrelson himself has addressed the question in a Facebook Live Q&A with Mashable. “I’m a mentor to Han,” he says, “but I’m also a bit of a criminal.  I don’t think I should say much more than that because the Force is not allowing me.”

For more, check out our theories on who Harrelson’s Han Solo character could be, and let us know what yours are!

John Wick: Chapter 2

If the first John Wick movie didn’t convince you that Keanu Reeves was back in the action movie game, the latest TV spot for John Wick: Chapter 2 should do the trick. It features newcomers to to the franchise like Common, as well as the returning Ian McShane. Riccardo Scamarcio, Laurence Fishburne, Ruby Rose, Bridget Moynahan, Lance Reddick, Franco Nero, and John Leguizamo also join the fun when Wick returns on February 10th… though there’s a good chance he’ll have to kill every last one of them…

Ocean’s Eight

James Corden is a man who likes surrounding himself with as much star power as possible. So it makes sense that the late night talk show host has joined the cast of the Ocean’s Eleven gender-swapped reboot Ocean’s Eight, what with the chance to rub elbows with the likes of Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Sarah Paulson, Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, and Awkwafina. Corden will play “an insurance investigator who grows suspicious” of this team of criminals, though I’m hoping he’ll also wind up being their getaway car driver, since we all know how much he likes chauffeuring celebrities around.

xXx: Return of Xander Cage

The latest TV spot for xXx: Return of Xander Cage focuses much more on the entire titular espionage team than it does on Vin Diesel’s extreme-sports-enthusiast solo agent, which bodes well for the film, since Vinnie D’s best movies have always been the ensemble actioners of the Fast and the Furious series. And look–there’s an Ice Cube in this high-octane beverage!

Raw

Last but not least today… No, it’s not a documentary about professional wrestling. Instead, Raw is one of the most acclaimed horror films to play the festival circuit in recent years. And it looks like it wraps a fair amount of social commentary about veganism into its blood-soaked thrills. See what I mean when you check out the red band trailer for this March 10th release…
