Jason O’Mara is the New Director of MARVEL’S AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Last season on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., a flash forward scene in the finale hinted that Phil Coulson was no longer in charge and a new director was calling the shots. We still don’t know who exactly the new director is, but we do know he’ll be played by the voice of Batman!

Marvel TV has announced that Jason O’Mara will portray the director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but his name was intentionally left out of the announcement. All we’ve been told is that O’Mara will play “a character whose Marvel roots go back to the 1940s.” That’s not a lot to go on, but our first guess would be Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch and one of the first androids in the Marvel Universe. That may not be far fetched, as the fourth season will also deal with the emergence of A.I. and Life Model Decoys.

One of the current mysteries about the new season is why Coulson would step down and remain with S.H.I.E.L.D. while someone else took over. Perhaps it was part of a deal to bring S.H.I.E.L.D. fully out of the shadows and back into the international spotlight. That’s just speculation at this point, but we should know more soon.

O’Mara has voiced Batman/Bruce Wayne in several DC animated films based on the New 52 relaunch, and he starred in the sci-fi series Terra Nova on Fox. He has also headlined In Justice, Life on Mars, and Vegas. His most recent series was Complications (pictured above), which ran for a single season on USA last year.

The fourth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. will premiere on Tuesday, September 20.

Who do you think that O’Mara will play on the series? Declassify your theories in the comment section below!
