Mondo’s IRON GIANT Tiki Mugs Are What They Choose to Be

Tiki mug collectors who are also pop culture geeks have to be facing tough decisions. In the past couple of years, franchises such as Star Wars and Marvel have joined the tiki game with stylized mugs. Shelves must be getting crowded. But even if your bar cart is getting full, you should consider making room for the latest release in Mondo’s Tee-Kis line. They’ve made gorgeous The Iron Giant ceramic tiki mugs with three different glaze finishes.

Artist Joe Allard’s responsible for the initial design, and Mondo details in a behind-the-scenes blog how they worked with Iron Giant director Brad Bird and Tiki Farm to get the look of the endearing character exactly right. The main release is a very robot-y shade of grey.

They’re also offering bone and “ghost” finishes through their website; a brown version will be available from Alamo Drafthouse in March.

If Iron Giant isn’t your jam, Mondo’s upcoming designs might have you reaching for decorative drink umbrellas. They’re working on mugs inspired by Cthulhu, Planet of the Apes, Jurassic Park, and Jaws. No one will judge you if go ahead and purchase a new shelf for these mugs right now.

All three glazes of Iron Giant tiki mugs will be available to purchase from Mondo on January 30 at 12:00 p.m. CT. If you want a mug, set your reminders now, because most Mondo releases sell out in no time.

Which Iron Giant variant will you try to get? What other movies do you hope Mondo’s Tee-kis collection will be inspired by? Pour one out in the comments and let us know.
