INVADER ZIM is Returning to Nickelodeon in the Best Way Possible

Despite its brief run on Nickelodeon, Invader Zim stole our collective hearts 16 years ago. And it’s never entirely gone away, thanks to its status as a cult classic series. There was even speculation about an Invader Zim revival for years, and now, the rumors are true! Today’s Nerdist News is singing the Doom song, and sharing all of the details about Invader Zim‘s return!

Join host, and Dib Membrane’s other sister, Jessica Chobot, as she runs down everything we know about the brand new Invader Zim TV movie. That’s right, we’re getting a 90-minute film from series creator Jhonen Vasquez, with original series cast members Richard Horvitz reprising his role as Zim alongside Rikke Simmons as GIR, Andy Berman as Dib, and Melissa Fahn as Gaz. We don’t know much about the plot, but it has been revealed that Zim has come up with “a new and potentially Earth-destroying plan” that may finally give Zim his due from his alien overlords.

And while you’re here, check out the teaser for it!

Vasquez hasn’t been shy about the creative differences that he had with Nick on his first run with the series. Fortunately, we believe that Vasquez may have an easier time bringing a more adult tone to the material. Hopefully this means that we’ll finally get to see Vasquez introduce characters from his comic, Johnny the Homicidal Maniac. Of course, to do that, Vasquez may also be allowed to finally kill off some of the show’s characters. But would the hardcore Invader Zim fans really want to say goodbye to any of their favorites?
