How the Russos Chose Who To Eradicate In INFINITY WAR!

It’s been a few months since Avengers: Infinity War upended the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a massive cliffhanger from which we’re still reeling. With a snap of his fingers, Thanos wiped out half of the universe, and left fans stunned to see some of the MCU’s best characters fade away like dust in the wind. Now that Infinity War is finally available on Blu-ray and DVD, the Russo brothers have offered a more complete explanation as to how they chose the victims of Thanos. Today’s Nerdist News is using the Time Stone to take us back to “the Snappening” for answers!

Join host and the highest ranking S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who wasn’t dusted, Jessica Chobot, as she goes over the Infinity War special features that directly address which characters met their ends and why. It turns out, everyone was picked based on the emotional impact they would have on the survivors. That’s why Bucky fades away in front of Captain America, Black Panther disintegrates before Okoye’s eyes, and Spider-Man met his end in Tony Stark’s arms.

The Infinity War commentary track explained why Spider-Man took so long to die, and it once again came down to the emotions it generated. Looking at the film as a whole, most of the deaths came about in the same way. Heimdall, Loki, and the rest of Asgardian dead were meant to traumatize Thor, while even Thanos was moved by the death of Gamora.

While the Guardians of the Galaxy and Doctor Strange’s fates didn’t elicit the same heartfelt response from Iron Man or Nebula, they still managed to give fans the feels as well. We fully expect that most of these deaths will be reversed by the end of Avengers 4, we just hope that their return to life is just as powerful as their demise.
