Idris Elba Raps on this Christmas Song With Noel Fielding

In case you were wondering, Idris Elba has finally become the best version of himself, and apparently Christmas is the time when that happens. After the news last week that he was putting out an album inspired by Luther, here’s a little taste of what his rap sounds like. That’s right, Idris Elba is a contributor on Noel Fielding and Serge Pizzorno‘s completely unexpected Christmas track, “Can’t Wait for Christmas”.

Please listen to the whole thing. I sat in public, with headphones in, listening to this little track, and it made my night better even before I got to Elba’s verse at the end. Maybe I just have a super sweet spot for Christmas music. (Spoiler: I totally do.)

The Mighty Boosh and Kasabian lent out their talent for an evening of wonderfulness, and I think we can all say it was a good decision. Who doesn’t want to hear some wonderfully different Christmas tunes when the radio waves are just completely taken over by the same old things that you have heard every single year for your entire life? And Fielding has some fun lyrics in there like “My wife is a walnut, a Christmas walnut.”

Who doesn’t compare their wife to a holiday walnut?? It’s so fun and different, and it may make its way right up my regularly played tunes at the holidays alongside The Waitresses’ “Christmas Wrapping“.

What do you think? Does Idris Elba have a future in Christmas music? He’s quite well known for moonlight as a DJ, and even put out an album, Idris Elba Presents mi Mandela, inspired by his work on Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom. And, as I mentioned above, he will soon be releasing an album inspired by his work on Luther. Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.
