Is there any scientific way to unite the universes of McConaughey? He “witnessed” wormhole travel in Contact, opined on the nature of time and space in True Detective, and went through a portal in the fabric of space time in Interstellar. Could a wormhole to do the trick? Or woud it take something more…cool?

In the video above, I interview Interstellar‘s co-writer Jonathan Nolan (brother of Christopher Nolan), and the film’s originator and science adviser, theoretical physicist Kip Thorne. I asked them whether the movie was meant to be a success commercially, critically, and for science communication. Thorne’s response is heartening for anyone who wants to see more good science in movies.
