Ramen, the mana of college students everywhere, is the perfect meal for when you have no money and no time. The only thing holding it back from pure productive excellence has always been the spork. Sure, it seems like a simple solution to combine both devices into a single tool, but too often this means that the spoon element isn’t big enough to gather soup and the fork element isn’t long or strong enough to gather noodles or meat. Which leaves the ramen eater having to fall back to two utensils, which isn’t optimal for food on the go.
That’s where Masami Takahashi came in.
Back in 2007, Takahashi was hired by the Sugakiya Japanese ramen chain to re-invent the spork into something more useful. As an art director and designer, she’s made a name for herself based on the complex and comprehensive ideas she’s created based on the concept that everything is connected. And that Dirk Gently style of thought led to the creation of a little known advancement in the utensil world: the Ramen Spoon + Fork.
Boasting a greater radius of spoon size and much long fork prongs, this device makes a great replacement for disposable chopsticks and for the much lesser Normal Spork. This allows for a much better Ramen experience, all while making you look like you’re a time traveler from a much better future, where we’ve cracked this whole spork issue.
