Here’s Your First Look at BATMAN: THE TELLTALE SERIES

Today, Telltale Games, Warner Brothers Interactive Entertainment, and DC Entertainment released the first screenshots for the highly anticipated new game Batman: The Telltale Series.

The game will be presented to attendees at this week’s E3 conference, and will be released this summer. Like other Telltale games, it will be released in episodes digitally on PC and consoles. Fans will also have the option to purchase a “season pass disc” which will give consumers automatic access to each of the five episodes as they are available for download.

The voice cast has also been revealed, and it’s a who’s who of great talent. Portraying the Dark Knight will be Troy Baker. Travis Willingham and Laura Bailey from Critical Role will be Harvey Dent and Selina Kyle, respectively. Rounding out the cast will be Erin Yvette (Vicki Vale), Enn Reitel (Alfred Pennyworth), Murphy Guyer (Lieutenant James Gordon), and Richard McGonagle (Carmine Falcone). More characters and cast will be released as the game episodes progress.

According to Kevin Bruner, Co-Founder and CEO of Telltale Games, “We’ve been hard at work at Telltale creating an all-new iteration of the iconic Batman story that puts players in the suit of billionaire Bruce Wayne, just as much as it will put them behind the mask, deciding how to carefully navigate a complex drama, rich with action, crime, corruption, and villainy lurking around every corner of Gotham City. The complex life and fractured psyche of Bruce Wayne has lent itself to becoming a bold evolution of the signature ‘Telltale’ role-playing experience, and we couldn’t be more excited as we prepare to debut the series to players across the world this summer.”

With this being a Telltale series, I hope we get to see more of a detective story with this version of Batman. Don’t get me wrong: I LOVE the Arkham series. However, Batman is so much more than a glorified ninja, and it would be refreshing to be able to play to the other aspects of his character. The look of the game is beautiful, with Batman’s costume a good balance between the comics and the Arkham series. (I know he has to protect himself, but sometimes I wondered how he was able to move with all that armor.) The Batmobile looking more like a car rather than a tank is also a step in a more comic-book like direction. From the look of Bruce Wayne, this seems to be well into his career, so I am hoping we get to see Nightwing at some point. Catwoman looks the same as other modern incarnations, which once again proves that her current costume is almost as iconic as the character herself.

You can check out more screenshots from the game in the gallery below. If the gameplay is as awesome as its look, Batman fans will NOT be disappointed.

So what do you think? Do you feel Batman is the perfect fit for the Telltale format? What other characters (and you can’t say Joker) would you like to see featured? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
