HBO’s WESTWORLD May Be Delayed Until 2017

Westworld, HBO’s television adaptation of the eponymously named 1973 film written and directed by Michael Crichton, has—like its featured theme park—run into some issues. The latest of which is a possible delay of its premiere date to some time in 2017.

The series, which has Jonathan Nolan—creator of Person of Interest, co-writer of The Dark Knight, and brother of Christopher Nolan—as its showrunner, has run into multiple issues during its production according to The Hollywood Reporter, including an unexpected two-month hiatus, as well as reports of there being some… intricate sexual performances being required of actors. And now, due to what is being rumored as a clash between Nolan and the network, a delay in the premiere date may be added to that list of issues.

At this time, Nerdist can confirm there is no official comment from HBO on the matter.

Outside of the behind-the-scenes issues with production and the network, Westworld—as evidenced by the above teaser—does look like a seriously cool reboot of Crichton’s world. For those who are unfamiliar with the original film, Westworld is about a period-themed “adult amusement park” called Delos, where people can go to indulge in all of their carnal and animalistic desires, thanks to some super spiffy humanoid robots. Unfortunately these robots, as is the case with so many robots in film, go completely bonkers and start killing real, good ol’ fashion flesh-and-blood people.

Along with an enticing concept, the series also has an extraordinary cast on board, including Anthony Hopkins as Dr. Robert Ford, Ed Harris as the Man in Black, Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores Abernathy, and James Marsden as Teddy Flood. On top of these stars, Westworld‘s extended cast also includes Thandie Newton, Jeffrey Wright, Rodrigo Santoro, Ben Barnes, Jimmi Simpson, Tessa Thompson, Sidse Babett Knudsen, Shannon Woodward, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Clifton Collins Jr., Simon Quarterman, and Angela Sarafyan.
