HAWKGIRL Cast In The CW’s ARROW/FLASH Spin-Off Series

The latest cast addition to the CW’s Arrow/Flash upcoming spin-off series is none other than fan-favorite character Hawkgirl, played by actress Ciara Renée, best known for her Broadway work in Big Fish and Pippin, as well as an episode of Law and Order: SVU. Renée joins Brandon Routh, Victor Garber, Wentworth Miller, and Caity Lotz, which means we now have the makings of a DC superteam featuring the Atom, Firestorm, Captain Cold, the first Black Canary, and now Hawkgirl.

It’s been stated that the new spin-off series would feature three DC superheroes who have never been seen before in live-action, although that means we have three more heroes joining the mix aside from Hawkgirl, as the character already appeared in a season nine episode of Smallville, played by played by Sahar Biniaz. We never saw her in costume on that show though, so maybe they’re not counting the character as having had a live-action incarnation before based on that technicality.

Hawkgirl is a hugely popular character due to her inclusion as one of the “Big 7” founders of the Justice League on the beloved Bruce Timm animated series, although this version won’t be Shayera Thal of Thanagar; instead, it looks like Ciara Renée will be playing the Kendra Saunders version of the character, best known to comics fans from the Geoff Johns run of Justice Society of America and Brad Meltzer’s Justice League of America run from a few years back.

In this version, Hawkgirl isn’t an alien, but described as “a young woman who is just beginning to learn that she has been repeatedly reincarnated over the centuries. When provoked, her ancient warrior persona manifests itself, along with wings that grow out of her back, earning her the moniker Hawkgirl.” Sounds like a bit of a hybrid version, as the non-alien version of Hawkgirl from the comics didn’t have natural wings. Hopefully we’ll be hearing who the other cast members are, not to mention what the show is actually going to be called, very soon.

Stay tuned to Nerdist for more updates soon.
