Gillian Flynn’s SHARP OBJECTS Heads to HBO with Amy Adams

Fans of Gone Girl will be excited to learn that best-selling novelist Gillian Flynn has a new project coming down the line, and it already has a straight-to-series order from HBO. The network seems to have confidence that Sharp Objects will do well on the small screen, and given Flynn’s track record for world building and completely engaging characters, here’s hoping that they are right.

Sharp Objects stars Amy Adams as Camille Preaker, a journalist fighting to make a name for herself in the newspapers of Chicago. All is not sunshine and roses for Ms. Preaker, though. Prior to her new career, she had a stint in a psychiatric facility following years of self harm. Things in her life become more complicated when she’s sent back to her hometown in Missouri to cover the murder of one young woman and disappearance of another. Her return brings back a lot of her own internal battles, and she soon finds herself identifying a bit too much with the victims.

The pilot of the eight episode series was penned by Marti Noxon, co-creator of UnReal, and Deadline reports that Flynn will also participate in the writing. The series will be directed and edited by Wild’s Jean-Marc Vallée. The adaptation of this novel has been in the works for a while. It was optioned five years ago for a feature before talks of a show surfaced. Flynn has a previous relationship with HBO so seeing it land with the cable network makes a lot of sense.

There’s no word yet on when the show will be available to watch, but we’ll be keeping an eye out for a premiere date for you!
