Gaming Daily: UNCHARTED 4 Dialogue Option Won’t Impact Story

News may have slowed down a bit today, but that doesn’t mean new developments and announcements didn’t hit the web. In addition to Far Cry Primal‘s exciting new trailer, there are a few more things we wanted to cover to keep you informed and up to date on all things video game-related. In today’s Gaming Daily, Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann explains that Uncharted 4‘s dialogue option doesn’t mean they are making Mass Effect, Dark Souls is getting a comic book, the Life is Strange Director’s Commentary has been released for free for those who purchased the game digitally, Mortal Kombat XL Edition to release in March, and Restore Points are absent from the 3DS version of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow.

Neil Druckmann confirms Uncharted 4 dialogue options won’t impact story.

When Naughty Dog unveiled Uncharted 4’s all-new dialogue option during PSX last month, we wondered whether or not it meant we’d be seeing different endings based on the choices. The feature has already been included and well-executed in the Mass Effect series, Until Dawn, Life is Strange and countless others, so a lot of people were hoping it would offer fans a similar experience. We received confirmation earlier today, (via an interview Neil Druckmann did with the folks at Eurogamer) that the dialogue options wouldn’t have a direct impact on the plot.

“The thing I want to make sure we’re clear about is that we’re not making Mass Effect,” he stated during the interview. “Uncharted has a very specific story, it has a very specific ending that’s very definitive to the franchise.”

He continued, “Every once in a while we felt a dialogue tree would really bring you more into the scene […] there’s something about Sam asking Nate about his old adventures that’s like, it would be kind of fun to have Nate – and therefore the player – pick which story they want to tell first. And there’s a few other instances like that where it felt like a dialogue tree was just going to get you more into the scene and make it more interactive.”

So, there you have it. Though I’m a bit disappointed they didn’t decide to go that route, I’m not surprised. To alter the series’ formula at the end of its run probably wouldn’t have made sense anyways.

Life is Strange Director’s Commentary now available

Alongside the physical launch of Life is Strange, Square Enix and DONTNOD have revealed that extra subtitles (Spanish (Mexican & Castilian), Brazilian-Portuguese, Portuguese, German and Italian), and the Directors’ Commentary have been officially patched into the game, for those who own the digital edition. Since the features were included in the Limited Edition, and not everyone was able to snag it, the folks behind the title decided to go ahead and offer them for free.

The update (including commentary) is already available for PS4, PC, and Xbox One owners, but the Director’s Commentary won’t be hitting Xbox 360 or PS3 until January 25th.

Pokémon Red, Blue and Yellow won’t have Restore Point feature.

According to a recent post on Siliconera, the Restore Point Feature–which is usually included with Virtual console games on the 3DS–won’t be included with the 3DS version of Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow. That means you won’t be able to create a save point, and pick up right where you left off at a later date. Instead, you’ll have to rely on designated save points that are already available in the game.

The information comes straight from the Japanese Virtual Console manuals which Nintendo recently uploaded.

Additionally, they also confirmed that the “virtual console menu as a whole is absent” and has been replaced by a Cable Club Communication Menu that will appear on the touch screen when the player attempts to connect to a partner or search for one who also has the game.

You’ll also have to completely close the game if you want to access the Nintendo 3DS Home menu again.  None of this is bad news, it’s just going to be a bit inconvenient.
