Gaming Daily: Keiji Inafune Launches Kickstarter for MEGA MAN LEGENDS Spiritual Successor

It’s Monday everybody, and in a few days we’ll be headed to San Diego Comic-Con for a fun-filled four days of geeky exclusives, interviews, laser tag, and tons of coverage on all things nerdy. In the meantime, we’re here to keep you informed and up to date on all of the gaming goodness that’s hit the web. In today’s Gaming Daily: Mega Man Creator Keiji Inafune is kickstarting a spiritual successor to Mega Man Legends, Predator is koming to Mortal Kombat X tomorrow, Patton Oswalt will be leading Telltale Games’ star-studded Minecraft: Story Mode cast, Ubisoft claims to have learned from mistakes made with Watch Dogs, and great changes are coming  to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt via patch 1.07.

Keiji Inafune announces Mega Man Legends spiritual successor, Red Ash: Indelible Legend

As if Keiji Inafune, co-creator of Mega Man, wasn’t busy enough already– news recently broke that he was launching another Kickstarter for a game called Red Ash: The Indelible Legend. The title is reportedly a spiritual successor to 1997’s 3D-open world adventure Mega Man Legends. This Kickstarter is following in the wake of Inafune’s other venture Mighty No. 9 which is due out September 15th of this year.

Inafune is asking for at least $800,000 by August 3, 2015. At the moment, over $269,000 has already been raised for the open-world RPG thanks to nearly 3,500 eager backers.  Though the primary goal will grant a prologue to a larger story (consisting of three episodes), $1.3 million will bring another three episodes beyond said prologue. According to Inafune, the prologue will be a full game.

He stated, “Of course, this is not to say that reaching the minimum goal will be an incomplete game. It won’t be the full story we want to tell, but we promise it will still be a game you will never forget!”

On the project, Inafune reveals, “Red Ash is a very different project from a retro action game like Mighty No. 9, in terms of both scale and concept. The primary goal with Red Ash is to tell a story on a grand scale; all of the primary concepts are clearly visualized in the minds of the creative team, from the overall plot to historical background. Even the final ending scene is planned out!”

Predator is ‘koming’ to Mortal Kombat X tomorrow.

That’s right folks, the ultimate hunter is almost here! Starting tomorrow you’ll be able to download Predator via the Predator Bundle. The fierce fighter will also be available for those who’ve purchased the Mortal Kombat X Kombat Pack. Alongside the new kombatant will also be the following skins: Commando Johnny, Infrared Scorpion and Carl Weathers Jax.

Also, if you’re dying to see how the baddie will throw down in matches, check out the awesome trailer above. Warner Bros. also revealed that the Klassic Fatality Pack, which includes four “klassic” fatalities for Sub-Zero, Sonya, Scorpion and Johnny Cage, will be available for free.

Watch Dogs

Ubisoft CEO has learned from the Watch Dogs experience.

Remember when Watch Dogs came out last year and the internet exploded over the fact that the graphics were severely downgraded from what they originally showed off? Sure, people have had similar complaints about other games (cough The Witcher 3 cough*) that rely on vertical slices or “target renders” designed to make the game look great, but Ubisoft’s reputation  has taken a drastic hit because of the hacker flop.

Thankfully, it seems the company is learning. In an interview with The Guardian, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot explains how the publisher has taken their experience with the troubled game and adapted for future titles.

“With E3 2015 we said, OK, let’s make sure the games are playable, that they’re running on the target machines,” Guillemot said. He continued, “When we show something, we ask the team, make sure it’s playable, make sure gamers can immediately see exactly what it is. That’s what we learned from the Watch Dogs experience – if it can’t be played on the target machine, it can be a risk.”

On the issues with Watch Dogs, Guillemot revealed, “It’s a real challenge to create those types of games,” he said. “When they come out, especially the first iterations, they are not perfect on everything. We think we launched a good quality game for a first step in a new brand with a new technology. It’s just so complex – seamless multiplayer, connectivity with mobile and tablets, so many things – it was maybe a bit too much for a first iteration.”

Patton Oswalt, Ashley Johnson, Dave Fennoy and more to lend voices to Telltale Games’ Minecraft: Story Mode

When Telltale Games revealed that they’d be working on an episodic Minecraft game, it was probably the most exciting thing ever. While details were slim, the developer took the MINECON in London this weekend to not only debut an official trailer but reveal the star-studded cast which includes the likes of Patton Oswalt, Ashley Johnson, Dave Fennoy, Scott Porter and more.

More changes are coming to The Witcher 3 with the next update

Though some of the biggest complaints have already been addressed by developer CD Projekt Red, update 1.07 tackles several more including: adding player storage, a new movement response mode for Geralt, and removing weight requirements from both alchemy and crafting components.

What’s interesting is that the developer revealed that the patch notes aren’t final yet, with the full change list slated for release later this week.

The patch notes so far:

  • A new, alternative (optional) movement response mode for Geralt.
  • A player stash for storing items, available in various locations throughout the game. Stash locations are marked on the player’s map.
  • Crafting and alchemy components no longer add to the overall inventory weight.
  • Books are now placed in a dedicated tab in the Inventory and books that have already been read are properly grayed out.
  • Multiple sorting options are now available in the Inventory.
  • Alchemy formulas and crafting diagrams can be “pinned”, meaning all components and ingredients required to make them will be conveniently marked in the Shop panel.
  • Dozens of fixes for quest related issues, both major and minor.
  • A few performance enhancements, including the optimization of FX, scenes and general gameplay.
  • Various improvements to horse behavior.

Considering the fact that list is already quite lengthy, it will be interesting to see what else they’ll be changing. As for when it will release, the developer urges fans to stay tuned for that info as well.
