New episodes of Game of Thrones don’t start shooting until next week and production is going to last until next summer, so it’s likely we’re not returning to Westeros until 2019. Fortunately, there’s no shortage of awesome fan-created Game of Thrones content to get us through the long wait, and this might be one of the very best that we’ve ever seen. French animator Malec has posted a video that imagines Game of Thrones as an anime series, complete with its own reworked opening sequence and an over-the-top theme song.
We came across this video via Uproxx, and it is absolutely brilliant. Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen‘s pensive looks into the distance could have come from almost every anime ever, and the video had a very clever way of depicting Arya Stark‘s infamous list. In fact, most of the major characters received a moment in the spotlight, including a great sequence in which Jon, the Hound, and Brienne tear through the White Walkers’ army of the dead while Daenerys and her dragon bring the pain.
The hilarious cover song was performed by KronoMuzik, and while we didn’t understand all of the lyrics, it’s almost impossible not to laugh when the singer slips into English. “Winter hating love” is my favorite random English lyric from the clip.
