Was DEADPOOL 2 Moved Up to Help SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY?

Fox has announced three of their X-Men spin-offs are getting different release dates, but is that a good sign? We broke down what the new schedule means on today’s Nerdist News Talks Back, along with the latest from HBO, and if we can learn anything about Avengers 4 from…..a cake?

Editor Kyle Anderson, Mothership writer Amy Vorpahl, and producer Jason Nguyen joined host Jessica Chobot today, and they kicked things off with Fox’s (supposedly unrelated to the Disney merger) shakeup for the release of their X-Men spin-offs. Was Deadpool 2 moved up a week to help Solo: A Star Wars Story, or to avoid going up against it? Which film will have the bigger box office haul? Will Deadpool‘s hard-R rating hurt it in that battle? Should we be worried by New Mutants being moved back ten months? And will Channing Tatum’s development hell Gambit movie ever get released after losing another director?

There are also lots of tidbits about HBO from president of programming Casey Bloys, including that any Game of Thrones‘ spin-off won’t air until at least 2020. What story do we think they’ll go with? Is there any chance it could ever have the cultural impact of the original series? Do we think the network made the right decision doing a Fahrenheit 451 movie instead of a show? And how excited are we over his comments The Watchmen series scripts are “amazing?” (Especially since this week we broke down the first six episodes on Alpha Comic Book Club at Project Alpha.)

Finally, the Russo Brothers celebrated wrapping up filming on Avengers 4 with a pretty amazing Thanos cake, so obviously it’s a giant clue, right? Like are the Avengers whose hands are holding it up the ones he killed? And do all of those leaked set photos of the heroes in their older costumes prove we totally nailed our time travel prediction for the film? (If we did, we promise to be super humble about it….maybe.)

Remember Nerdist News Talks Back airs live every weekday at 1:00 p.m. PT to our YouTube and Alpha channels, which means your thoughts and questions can be a part of the show when you tune in with us. And because we do it at the same time every day, you never have to worry about us freaking everyone out by suddenly changing our schedule like Fox did.

But you can still talk back to us in the comments below, so share your thoughts on today’s topics and let us know what you think the big shakeup means.
